Alexander Mutafov
He was born in Shumen in the family of a volunteer in the Russo-Turkish War of Liberation, Nako Mutafov. The family moved to Varna and there Alexander spent his childhood and studied at the Varna Men's Gymnasium. The sea inspired the boy for his first artistic attempts, and his meetings with the great Bulgarian artists of the early 20th century, Anton Mitov, Nikolay Pavlovich, Ivan Mrkvichka and others, had a great influence on the development of his style.
