Georgi Baev
Georgi Baev was born on November 9, 1924 in Burgas. As a young man he played football for Levski (Burgas). In 1949 he graduated from the Academy of Arts in Sofia with acad. Iliya Petrov and prof. Dechko Uzunov. Until 1960 he worked mainly in the field of graphics and scenography in the puppet theater in Burgas.
His first international recognition came in 1957 at the World Youth Festival in Moscow. This was followed by numerous participations in exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad, awards and memberships in prestigious art organizations, including the Kunstler Haus in Vienna and the Japanese association Nika-kai. In 1983, his studio was destroyed in a fire, but the following year he created iconic compositions with a humanistic and anti-war orientation, which received high international acclaim. In 1986, he was awarded the Herder Prize of the Vienna Academy of Arts.
Georgi Baev is widely represented in international publications and collections, known for his bright personality and strong public position. In 1990–1991, he was a deputy in the 7th Grand National Assembly and among the representatives who left the parliament in disagreement with the adopted Constitution.
