Ivan Stoilov - The Bunker


Ivan Stoilov – Bunkera was born on October 1, 1934 in the village of Kondofrey, Pernik region. He graduated in painting from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, studying with professors Nenko Balkanski and Iliya Petrov. He then improved his knowledge in Italy and France. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and his works have won awards from the Union of Bulgarian Artists. His main work covers both painting and sculpture. He draws inspiration from the archaeological discoveries of prehistoric ceramics and plastic arts. He also collaborates with the University of Thessaloniki in the field of archaeology and art history, as well as the Archaeological Museum in Sofia. His works can be found in the National Gallery of Foreign Art, the Sofia Gallery of Contemporary Art, the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, as well as in private collections in Sofia, Thessaloniki, Kassel, Rome, New York, Paris, Brussels and London. He left this world in 2007 in Sofia.
