Marko Monev

Marko Monev (b. 1939) is a Bulgarian painter, known as a master of landscape. He was born in 1939 and lived for many years in Ruse, where he is perceived as a Ruse author. He graduated from the Academy of Arts, and his first paintings date from the 1960s, when landscape was once again gaining attention in Bulgarian art.

Since 1964 he has participated in the exhibitions of the Union of Bulgarian Artists, and his first solo exhibition was in 1975 in Sofia. The themes of his works include cities (with an emphasis on ancient architecture), the Danube and rural motifs. In 1977 he specialized in Paris and held exhibitions at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin and at the Bulgaria Gallery in Plovdiv.

His style is characterized by contemplativeness, a moderate palette, and a background that adds depth and thoughtfulness to the scenes. In addition to landscapes, he painted interiors and portraits of loved ones, leaving a significant pictorial legacy associated with the Ruse school of painting.
