Naum Hadjimladenov


Naum Hadzhimladenov (July 15, 1894, Samokov – August 20, 1985, Samokov) was a Bulgarian artist, known for his biblical and genre compositions and book illustrations. He studied at the State Academy of Arts under Prof. Ivan Mrkvichka. He worked as a teacher, illustrator and museum director in Samokov.

His work includes oil paintings, watercolors, ink drawings and woodcuts. His themes are often religious: "Crucifixion", "The Last Supper", "Adam and Eve". It is estimated that he painted about 5,000 paintings. His works are kept in the National Art Gallery, the Sofia City Gallery and private collections in Bulgaria and abroad.

Awards : Gold Medal in Paris (1937), Order of Civil Merit, Order of Saint Alexander, Order of Cyril and Methodius, 1st degree, Honorary Citizen of Samokov (1975).
